PERFORMANCE | 2016

(’Threads, performed at IAC’)}

Threads is an interactive performance that visualizes live sensor readings from contemporary circus performers. The performers wear custom-built cardiac and muscle electric sensors that wirelessly transmit small body electric readings into a graphics program. The audience watches the performance as it is lit by a large projection or LED wall displaying black and white graphics representing the performers’ data. Threads exemplifies an empowering relationship between the body and technology, in which performers control their environment in a unique way.

Special thanks to Mimi Yin, Jer Thorp, Andrew Lazarow, Daniel Shiffman, Andy Sigler, Craig Pickard, and Chang Liu, for their awesome guidance, and to Sam Turner, Elizabeth White, Tiriree Kananuruk, Richard Lapham, Roxanne Kim, José Vega-Cebrián, Melissa Pamela Orozco Salazar, for volunteering their time to this project.
