Wake

2016

Wake is an interactive performance that integrates motion-capture and dance with the surrealist technique, the exquisite corpse. Dancers perform one at a time in a three-sided Optitrack motion capture studio, where their dances are captured. Each new dancer enters the performance space in succession, improvising choreography with the previous dances projected on the three walls around them. The audience watches the performance live from the open fourth wall of the studio, or on a virtual reality headset where they can move around freely with a game controller.

Wake was created in collaboration with Mahe Dewan and Jarrett Slavin. It was choreographed and performed by Kyla Ernst-Alper.
